1881 Census - Liverpool
At the time of the 1881 census he was living at 6 Eversley Street, Toxteth, Liverpool with his father, (36) who was described as a ships carpenter and his mother Jessie (33). Both parents were shown as born in Liverpool. Also at home was Hugh's younger brother Richard McElroy aged 3, he too was born in Liverpool. (It was Richard who was to become a Catholic Priest and who held the position of Prior at St Mary's Church, Bodmin, Cornwall at the time of the tragedy.)
