Mr Charles Alexander Louch

Mr Charles Alexander Louch, 50, was born in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset in 1862. He was the son of Samuel Louch (saddler) and Maria Louch. He was the brother of William. He, like his father and brother was a saddler by trade. Their business was based at 25 Regent Street, Weston-Super-Mare.

Charles married Alice Adelaide Slow (from nearby James Street) at Axbridge Church, Somerset on 7 January 1898.

In addition to being a well-known businessman Charles Louch was also a local preacher in the Wesleyan Church. His brother, William had moved to California to work and Charles and Alice planned a visit to him. Two weeks prior to their departure Charles had occupied the pulpit at the Lympsham Wesleyan Church and made references to his impending voyage. He and his wife boarded the Titanic at Southampton as second class passengers (ticket number 3085, £26).

Charles died in the sinking. His body was recovered from the sea on 23 April 1912 by the cable-laying vessel MacKay Bennett. He was buried at sea the following day.
