Wireless Operator Reports He Was
Unable to Get Particulars of Titanic Sinking
St. Johns, N. F., April 17---The steamer Bruce, which arrived in St. John's harbor at noon on Monday and remained in port until 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, was off the coast Sunday night. The wireless operator on the Bruce closed his office at 11:45 pm. At 8 o'clock Monday morning, when he went on duty again, the Cape Race operator notified him that the Titanic had struck an iceberg. The Bruce had no details of the tragedy. This is the vessel to which a brief alleged account of what happened to the Titanic was credited in newspapers yesterday morning.
