Hello again Hildo. If one studies the crewlists carefully, comparing the official Cunard crew list (which contains 694 crewmembers) and the signing-on lists, one finds that there were 692 crew (not more anyway), including 292 survivors. The figure 702 comes from the British Inquiry, but they don't give the names. There were 78 people in the deck dpt There were 297 people in the victualling dpt There were 312 people in the engineering dpt There were 5 musicians Best regards, Peter |

Hello Geoff, Thank you for the official list of children traveling 3rd class. It seems that there were much more children aboard than the official list says. On the list with errors I have some of the names are missing. Arthur Bartley and Gordon Bartley are missing and their parents are not on the list too. So who were the parents and did any of them survive? Thomas Bodell was not on the list but his parents are on the List, Mr. and Mrs. Bodell. But there is nothing about their fate. Joseph E. Cooper, was not on the list, but his mother Nellie E. Cooper was on the list, but nothing about their fate? The Goodall, brothers were not on the list. On the list is a W. Goodall. But again nothing on their fate. Robert Lambert, was missing too, but there is a John Lambert on my list, perhaps his father. But again nothing on his fate. Hilda Topping, was missing from the list, But I found a Margaret Topping on the list, perhaps her mother. But again nothing on their fate The same story for Frank and Dorothy Wilson, they were not on the list. I found on the list a W. wilson, but again nothing about their fate. For John Williams, I have the first name Edward and according the list he was younger as his sister Edith. For the age of Arthur Scott, I had 8. And Robert Logan I had 3 years old. It seems that the twins aboard Lusitania were the "Lucky" ones. Miss and Master Riley, both four and saved. Miss and Master Mainman, both 7 and saved. And Thank you for the information about Mrs. James Richardson, another error from my list. Regards, Hildo |

Hello Hildo, The Bartley parents were George & Ellen, all of them drowned. Thomas Bodell's parents were Thomas & Florence, all of them drowned. Joseph Cooper's mother was Nellie, both drowned. The Goodall children's parents were William & Beatrice, all drowned. Hilda Topping's mother was Margaret - both drowned. There was no john Lambert in 3rd class - just Robert and his mother Delia. She was a sister of passenger John Gately, maybe that is were the confusion arose. The Wilson children's mother was Emily - their father was William but he was not on the ship. Maybe your list should read "Mrs William Wilson"? Regards Geoff |

Hello Geoff, Thank you for the information. I assume that, both the Wilson children and their mother drowned and that Mrs. Lambert, her son and her brother drowned too. Regards, Hildo |

Were there anymonre teenagers among the crew members? And who was the youngest among the crew? Was I William Burrows, who was 15 at the time? The youngest passenger was William Docherthy, I have understood from several books he was only 2 months old. Regards, Hildo |

Hello Geoff, Thank you for the information. So Miss Kathleen Palmer was no child. So one to take from the children's list. That make's 138 children and infants. And Alfred Mainman was indeed a teenager. Thank you for the names of teenagers from third class. Mr. George Sharpe was saved. There were four more people calles Sharpe traveling third class and all survived. Were they related? (Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sharpe and Annie and Mary Sharpe) Kharaman Petrosian, was saved too. And Mrs. Lucy Taylor too. And Jacob Shkrdoff did too survive. But the other two Allan Swallow and Norman Thompson are missing did they Survive? Regards, Hildo |

In third class were Mrs Annie Sharp, Samuel Sharpe, his wife (Mary Jane) and their son George. All of them survived. Allan Swallow drowned as did Norman Thompson travelling with his parents Joseph and Sarah Ann. Joseph Thompson survived, his wife died. Geoff |

Hello Geoff, Thank you for the new information. So another error from the list. Mrs. Samuel Sharpe is the same as Mary Sharpe. And the name of Joseph Thompson was on the list, but that of his wife and son were missing. So two more names on the list. Regards, Hildo |

Does any one know what the age was of the following children or teens? Mr. John V. Mainman; Mr. George Bates; Mr. Robert James Clarke; Mr. Cornelius Horrigan; Mr. Edgar H. Joynson; Master Frederick Ackroyd; Miss Joan Fish; Master Ronald Greenwood; Miss Phyllis Marichal; Master Maurice Marichal; Miss Grace McFarquhar; Master Campbell McKetchen; Master Charles Neville; Miss Evelyn Neville; Miss Muriel Neville; The Owen Brothers; The Webster Brothers; What happend to? Hello All, I was wondering how some of the children were saved. Helen Smith was in one of the boats which was lowered safely. She was put in one of the boats by Ernest Cowper. In the boat she sat on the lap of Miss Elizabeth Hampshire. Arthur Scott, was rescued too in one of the boats which was lowered safely away. There was no room for his mother. His mother was an occupant of one of the boats that crashed down to the water. Virginia Bruce Loney and Avis Dolphin were both in boats who spilled their occupants down to the water. Both survived this. Desmond Cox was saved in a boat, I believe together with his mother. I believe that William Docherty and his mother were saved together too. As did Paul Bretherton and his mother. Edith Williams, was pulled from the water, by Mr. Hook, the father of Elsie and Frank Hook. I believe Elsie was with him, but Frank was separated from them, and they found him later in a hospital. But how was Frank rescued? And what about Edith's brother? Stuart Pearl was put in one boat by Alice Lines, but there was no room for her, so I believe she jumped, with Audrey overboard and were picked up by the same boat. But how was 8 months old Nigel Frederick Booth saved, while his mother died? And how was 7 year old Robert Kay rescued while his mother died? And the Gardner brother, were they rescued together? And how were the three surviving Mainman children rescued? Did 16 year old Molly, rescued her younger sister and brother? How did Mr. and Mrs. Richards managed to rescue, two of their children? How did Mr. Coughlan managed to rescue his two sons? I know that many of the boats, crashed or capsized. Boats which were safely loaded and left the ship with some small problems were the boats: 1, drifted empty from the ship, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, with a small accidant, 21. Any idear which children were in which boat? Regards, Hildo |

Hello board members, One new message from me, with some of the questions I have posted before. I would like to finish the list of passengers and crew and I find it interesting to know some more about how some of the survivors were rescued. 01. About the youngest passenger and youngest crew member aboard: I believe the youngest passenger was William Docherty. Correct me, if I am wrong. But who was the youngest crew member? Was it 15 year old William Burrows or was it somebody else? 02. About the children traveling second class: Who can help me with some of the ages of the following children, infants or teens? - The Abas sisters; - Master Ackroyd; - Miss Bailey; - Master Baxter; - Miss Brammer; - The Burley children; - Miss Chanrty; - Master Chirgwin; - Master Davey; - Miss J. Hello Geoff, Thank you for the information. So Mr. John Mainman was the oldest of the Mainman children. John Mainman, 21, Alfred Mainman, 19, Molly Mainman, 16, and the twins Elizabeth and Edwin, 07. The oldest two died, as did their parents, Molly and the twins were saved. Now I know the ages of Grace MacFarquhar, Charles Neilson and Evelyn Neville, who were all teenagers, I can take three more names from the children's list. So the figure is now down to 135 children. I believe six more than the official figures. 14 in first class, 62 in second class and 39 in third class. About the Webster brothers, how old was the oldest, William, the only one to survive the disater? About the Marichal children, I believe the oldest, Miss W. Yvonne was 06. But of the other two I have no age. (Phyllis and Maurice) Regards, Hildo |

Hildo, For many years, I have collected biographical information concerning the passengers and crew of the Lusitania. Utilizing the fantastic re- sources that have assisted us in bringing forward the stories and lives of the passengers of the Titanic, Phil Gowan and I have had tremendous successes in finding the most elusive of the travellers on Lusitania's last voyage. It seemed a huge error in judgement to allow the stories of these 1959 people go untold. Each of these men, women, and children exper- ienced tragedy and adversity equal to that of those aboard Titanic. Just as with the victims of the World Trade Center horror, the 764 survivors and 1195 victims of the sinking of the Lusitania were ordinary civilians, caught up in a machine of tragic aggression and selfishness. Their voices deserve to be heard. Look forward to seeing some of the fruits of this labor in the future. Both Phil and I are unswerving from our quest to relate the long-lost last chapters to the many lives that we study through these historical events in liner history. Best Regards, Brian Meister |

Hi, Brian! Am looking forward to seeing your and Phil's future publications on the Lusitania's passengers; any project that you and Phil collaborate on is bound to be dynamite. A number of other Titanic researchers (including myself) have begun delving into the backgrounds of many of the Lusitania's passengers; perhaps it's time we all pooled our resources and came up with the ultimate biographical sourcebook for that disaster. Anyway, you guys keep plugging away. (Phil has told me about some of his own Lusitania discoveries, and they're good -- they're verrrry good.) :-) All my best, George |

Hey thanks George--actually Brian has done the lion's share of Lusitania research--and he's been working on it for years. As the number of Titanic people we've been searching for continues to dwindle (two big new discoveries last Saturday alone), having a full new "menu" of Lusitania people to find makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. We'll have to chat about your proposal :-). Phil |

HMMM. The Life of Brian, and Phil as best supporting researcher. Any more surprises? All kidding aside Brian. The story of the Titanic to say the least is tragic, but I can not even find the words for Lusitania. I will readily admit that I have done very little research on Lusitania, (I suppose as I have not found as much on it) but when I think of the innocent victims, and all placed in a mass grave, I am deeply troubled, in a similar way as I am to our own September 11 tragedy. I am comforted to know that there are key people who are doing something to give a remembrance to them that is so deserving. I thank you for caring, and I am anxious to learn about them. Sincerely; Colleen |

Brian, George and Phil - Thanks for your various emails, indeed this is a very exciting prospect and I'd be delighted to help with my records on the British passengers - I think I have nearly all of them tracked down now! Geoff |

Hello All, Indeed, I agree that the stories about the passengers and crew aboard Lusitania must be told. So let them hear the untold stories about all aboard the Lusitania, they deserve it, to be told. I myself hope to get a complete passenger and crew list together. And that is already very difficult. Not many places to go for informatioan overhere in the Netherlands. I have only two incomplete passengerlists from two websides. With a lot of errors and hundreds of names missing. So I am very glad that so many of you have helped my with information about passengers and crew. Many thanks again to everyone! Regards, Hildo |

Brian, George, Phil, and Geoff! I've got about twelve years of Lusitania passenger and crew research behind me so I'd like to throw my hat into the ring as well.... Eric |

George, Eric, and Geoff, Thank you all for the messages. It is gratifying to know that the announcement of such a project brought out so much cooperation for the endeavor. Phil and I have gathered a great deal of info, but look forward to our chatting about the passengers with you. With this caliber of researchers working together, there is no fear of incorrect dates appearing or purposely left-out details to slow us down. With this kind of support, the project will be an unstoppable juggernaut! Best Regards, Brian |
