Jim and I are pleased to see that 'Lest We Forget' has made an appearance in the Staffordshire papers. The online website http://www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/features/history_this_week.shtml It has a link on the front page. Hopefully some readers who sample ET might have a Titanic connection that they'd like to share with Phil. Mike " God will get you for that Walter! "

Just goes to show that we're not the only ones who pay attention to what goes on with this website. I wonder if there might not be a book to be had out of this. I hope so. With all the books that focus on events, a few notables, and claims of intrigues, neferious and devious conspiracies, it's refreshing to see something that focuses on the very real people who lived and died in this event. We thought so, too. When Mark Warren reprinted the excellent Shipbuilder issue he pretty much swept the field of competion by making available the last word on the ship's technical details and decor, and even improved on the original by adding additional illustrations. What we hope to do is put out a book which, like his, is unsurpassable, but focusing on the human element. First, we plan to get a few hundred of the bios we have done posted on ET over the next year, then expand the best of them into a book. Perhaps the first in the 'Encyclopedia Titanica Presents' series |

Hello Michael, Yes, you are right that people are taking notice of ET. They may not post, as the message board is just a small part of the website, but they notice. I think Jim is on to something with 'Encyclopedia Titanica Presents'. Mike " God will get you for that Walter! "

>>I think Jim is on to something with 'Encyclopedia Titanica Presents'.<< So do I. You just need to be careful that what makes it into print reflects the latest and greatest information. If what Jim said about recieving some updated information for that article is any indication, that can be fairly tricky. Sooner or later, you have to draw a line in the sand to get the thing out, but that carries some risk as well. Something that looked good when it was sent off to the printers just might get trumped by something new dug up out of some dusty archive. Cordially, Michael H. Standart Equal Opportunity Curmudgeon

One of the major advantages of publishing online, as opposed to books or magazines, is that one's work is, theoretically, instantly available to anyone (with computer access)interested in the subject matter. Another is that one is immediately accessible to one's readers. It was a pleasant surprise to receive not only an excellent review from the Smith family descendents but also be given additional information. Perhaps the greatest advantage is that one can correct mistakes and update information without having to wait for the second printing. The idea of doing a book has been one we've been kicking around for a long time (I know, Michael S. that you've been offered a copy of our magnum opus Jim and Mike's Scary Tales of Death at Sea ) and will eventually implement. |

Jim, whether I get a copy gratis or by way of Amazon.com, I'll be looking forward to seeing it. I think it would fill a gap in the body of general knowladge that needs to be filled. Cordially, Michael H. Standart Equal Opportunity Curmudgeon

Scary Tales of Death At Sea is the joking name I have for my collection of accounts of obscure wrecks, where I have one or two interesting factoids but not enough information to even warrant a posting on the message board. So many shipwrecks, so little time to research them. |

You probably know more then I do. I known about Titanic sine 1986 and the Lusitania since 1994 but I never really studied them till now. So I bet you probably know a lot more of what went on then I do including any other Shipwreck I probably don't even know about. I read your posts so if you came out with a book tomorrow I'd buy it. I'm so poor too, but I'd love to read about all the facts that you know. Cordially George understudied Lorton. George What the Ship's Band really sung when Titanic went down. Jim K and Mike P If a book comes out of Least We Forget I would be very interseted in getting a copy to say the least. A work by Kalafus and Poirier would share space with Hoehling, Sauder, Marschall, Layton and Moloney on my bookshelf. cheers Martin "No Sir, We just hit the cruiser" helmsman on Queen Mary
