i watched the James Cameron's Titanic, and i have a question about the flooding pf the dinging saloon. rose and jack are in the dinging saloon after collapsible D has been lowered, jst after 2:00 am. my thought is wouldn't the dinging room have been flooded by then? it's on D deck. but in the movie, its jst after 2:00 am, could the water flood 4 decks in 10-15 mins?

well Its very possible because Lightoller had the D-Deck gangway door on the port side opened and when water reached D Deck water basiclly poured in through that door way into the D Deck reception room which was a good deal fore of the dinning saloon not to mention some passengers left their portholes open in their staterooms. But since im tired I cant really pick the correct diagram ive created for 2.00 am so I couldnt tell you how the scene would have been. But I find it doubtful thought cause i belive by 2.00 am water would have already been up to the A Deck promenade and that would mean the D Deck gangway doors would have been a good 10 to 20 feet underwater by then (estimated), but water would have been level with water on the outside of Titanic by this time since the gangway door provided acess for water to flow quicker, and with water just under A deck, the aft end of the D Deck First class dinning saloon would have its portholes above the water while the foreward portholes were under. But you also have to think in third deminsion too. water wouldnt have been up to D deck by time water started pouring into Titanic through the D-Deck gangway door. so water would have been down flowing from D Deck down the grand staircase into the hull of Titanic and the lower decks so it would have taken time for water to fill up those areas before water would start backing up and flow up "hill" towards the dinning salloon.

Thats one thing that James didnt put in Titanic was the D-Deck gangway door being open cause the D-Deck reception room area would have looked alot different cause water would have been pouring in through that door.
