I am so sorry to hear that dear Milvina Dean has passed away. She was a truly remarkable and very personable lady, who made time for everyone that she met, I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Dean on 2 or 3 occasions, and during which she would be equally pleased to chat or hear whatever it was that I might have to say. Bless her. It is such a coincident that this dear lady should pass on the anniversary of the launching of RMS Titanic. May she now Rest in Peace. |

I was really sad when I heard about Millvina's death. She was the last link between the 21st century and the Titanic. She seemed like and extraordinary woman. May she rest in peace and condolences to her family. Good night, Millvina. |

I first heard the news lastnight on ABC World telecast. Typically the broadcast ends on a happy note for the viewers, however, last night's closing was in regards to the passing of Ms. Dean...Rest In Peace dear old friend. They are all gone now... Michael Cundiff NV, USA |

Bless you, Miss Dean. I regret never having been able to meet you or any of your fellow Titanic survivors, but I am glad you can be at rest now. |

Millvina was unfailingly gracious, graceful and tolerant, even under trying circumstances...more than that, she actually seemed to enjoy the diversity of people she met. She sparkled in company with good humour, wit and charm. She had a remarkable combination of warmth and personality. She will be greatly missed. |

I've been thinking on Millvina's Life and I think she was for a lot of people the face of Titanic but she was also much more then that! I, myself never got to meet the lady but I can understand how all of you who became close to her feel! I got home from work the Thursday before last to the News that my Grandmother had just passed on! I'm thankful she lived to 90 and helped raise me and many other things that made my Grandmother special to me and I'm sure Millvina also had qualities that made her special to all the people who know and loved her! I think Millvina would want us to treasure the people in our lives because sometimes we lose them and once their gone that's it! |

Very sad news, but at least Millvina had a long life and still had her faculties intact, as Paul stated. She died peacefully and that's the way she would have wanted it. I met Millvina just once in July 2002 in Southampton, while on a trip with a group of fellow THS members. (John, you were there too, my friend, don't forget.) The first thing I said to her was "it is a pleasure to meet you" and her reply was that it was "a pleasure to meet me!" She had a twinkle in her eye that I will never forget. She signed three of my books and I had pictures taken. It was only for a brief time, but it is something that I will treasure forever. She was a remarkable woman; full of life and spunk. She took everything in stride and with so much patience. Even when people were flooding her for autographs, not once did she complain. She enjoyed the fame and never got tired of it. That's the last link to the Titanic- it is truly the end of an era. It is up to people like us now, to make sure the story of Titanic, her passengers and crew live on. Now she can be with her father that she never knew, along with her mother and brother, Bertram. My thoughts are with Bruno, as he must be going through a horrible time. Rest in peace, Millvina and may God bless you. I will miss you terribly. "To be happy is to be contented in your own mind"...Harold Godfrey Lowe 43° 44' 01" N, 79° 24' 16"W

Sorry for the ridiculously stupid question ... but who is Bruno? I didn't think Milvina had any children, did she? |

Holly, Bruno was Millvina's companion for many years. He has accompanied her to the many conventions and tours, over the years. I admit that I have not revealed too much information about him, on this Board, so as to help him maintain some privacy. I have met both Millvina and Bruno, and now, truly, feel for him. A big part of my own Titanic dream died on May 31, 2009 with the passing of Millvina Dean. My hope of meeting her is gone. It seems like an end of an era. I'll never forget how the passing of a woman I've never met would affect me so much as I read the words- and tears filled my eyes. You'll live on in Titanic's history Millvina and we'll never forget. |

I've just finished reading the above memories of Milvina Dean. I wish that I had known her too. I feel a lump in the throat thinking how gracious the survivors were, telling their stories over and over, allowing the public to treat them as precious "historical artifacts" (I chuckled at Ms. Dean's quote "People think I'm the Titanic.") I read the bio on 'Find a Grave', and was surprised and pleased to realize that Ms. Dean's life was more than 'the Titanic survivor' She survived two world wars, and did useful work in the second one. Depressions, etc. She saw and experienced so much history, yet she did not set herself in the past but lived in the present. Quite a lady to remember. I hope she's reunited with her father. He must be proud of her. My sympathy to Bruno and to all her friends and family. Marilyn P.

Wow, what a shock! I have'nt been able to get on here for a week and this is what i find now! Oh, rest in peace you great woman! She lived a great, long, satisfying life, and i'm glad she was able to make it this far and pass away at greater age than many of the Titanic survivors. Rest in peace, Millvina, go to your family and rest. |

Here are some photos taken of Millvina: 1999: During a THS-sponsored Heritage Tour: Quebec, during the Saint Lawrence Seaway crossing, to Riviere-du-Loup from Pont-au-Pic: View Image July 2002: Southampton: Lunch shot, at the Duke of Wellington Pub: before a group of people sailed on the QE2. Recognize one of our Moderators?? View Image and October 1999: Quebec City: at the Lobby of the Chateau Frontenac Hotel. Millvina with a friend of historian Don Lynch. The sign she is holding was designed by me, and signed by many of my now-former coworkers: I had told them many of the stories from previous tours. This time we used the sign to welcome the THS members to Quebec City, as I arrived there first (Had passed on a QE2 Excursion, from New York to Quebec City): View Image John Clifford
