With Millvina's passing, an era is gone. May God bless her and all of the Titanic passengers with the joys of Paradise! |

John -- a huge thanks for sharing your photo's. I have quite a number myself. I suppose I had the good fortune of having to surpass my guilt and finally cave in and accept Millvina's invitation of having tea at her home. I know what you mean Jason about that sparkle in her eye. She was with it through and through and always look on the funny side of life. As a token of sincere thanks I gave her and Bruno a beautiful selection of lillies for their own gardens. As for you Jason -- do you realise you've a few inches away from a small number of the crew names who had their homes addresses within walking distance of the Duke of Wellington?? I hold many fond memories of our dear beloved Millvina. God bless and God keep her. Andrew Williams

Today I found some more photos of Millvina, which I scanned and saved to a picture file. Here are some of them: 1. BELAST: April 14, 1996: On board the HMS Caroline. I first read about this wonderful woman's death on the internet, and when i saw that, I shouted nooooooooooo! The world has lost a great lady. The world lost the last remaining survivor of the greatest ship that may have ever sailed the the seven seas, eventhough she only sailed in the cold waters of the north atlantic, for only a few days. I think its such a shame to lose the last surviving passenger connection between the ship and the rest of the world. To those who are are decendents of those who were onboard the titanic, and may have known her, I grieve with you. To her friends, i say to you, I am sorry for your loss. Milivina Dean was a special person. She was the youngest person to survive, and now shes gone, and I am glad that during the remaining days she had, some members of Hollywood came together to help her when she needed the help the most. She was lucky not to have any memories of what happened, with the exception of what she was told when she got older. I pray that heaven will open its doors to her. I pray that she be granted eternal rest. May she have eternal peace. I pray that she and all of those who were on the ship, whether they survived or died, wont ever be forgotten. This loss will take time to heal the broken hearts that were caused by her death, and i hope with time those hearts will be mended. I should also remember that she had a good full life. and that she had friends who cared about her including, Bruno. May the good Lord bring to him and to those who knew her angels of comfort, to help them through these difficult days of mourning, and grant them peace |

I lost my 91 year old mom about a year and a half ago. Any time she would see me reading or watching something about the Titanic she would ask me how the lady that was the "little baby" was doing so I'd have to check up on the latest news. I'll have to pass along to all my former students that the last survivor has passed. |

I don't think I have read anything about Millvina's funeral. Did anyone attend and exactly what were the arrangements? |

Miss Dean was a real trooper. I met her during the BTS '03 convention, and though she must have been tired she made time for all those who wanted to shake her hand and have a photo taken with her. The brief conversation I had with her shows how charming and gracious she was, even to a stranger. She asked me where I was from. I said "Texas." And to my surprise she said she had friends from Texas who had once treated her to one of our tasty but artery-clogging chicken fried steaks! She said she "enjoyed it very much indeed." She was a class act. Not a snooty bone in her body, everybody mattered to her. I like what someone said above, about "saving the best for last." I think that's very apt. http://www.costumesocietyamerica.com/

The Funeral of Millvina Dean I am reliably informed that this will take place next week. It is to be a 'Family Only' affair in accordance with her wishes. No times or dates will be given. No flowers by request. Donations if desired to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. Our thoughts are with Bruno and the family. Lets hope that the Titanic community respect Millvina's and the family's wishes. Regards Brian |

The arrangements for Millvina's funeral are very sensible. I know that her family were concerned about what to do for the best. A 'family only' policy keeps things simple and avoids hurting the feelings of those who expected/wished to attend. One also needs to bear in mind that these were Millvina's express wishes. I never had the pleasure to meet Millvina Dean, but had the pleasure to speak with her on the the phone back in my Titanic exhibit days, and I found her to be very, very friendly. I really wish I had had the opportunity to meet her. She will be missed- now with the last Titanic survivor gone, Titanic and those who sailed her truly do belong to the ages. regards tarn Stephanos |
