I am seeking information on Patrick Colbert, third class passenger who may be related to me through my maternal grandfather. Any information on this Mr. Colbert or his family would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello Mary,

I've moved your post here to the passenger section, as hopefully this will facilitate more helpful responses.

Welcome to the board.

Regards,

Inger

Dear Mary,
From my data base I have the following:
Third Class passenger:
Colbert, Patrick. Missing. Father:- John Colbert, Kilconlea, Abbeyfeale, County Limerick, Ireland. En route to Canada - c/o Daniel Gallery's Office, Montreal, Canada.
(From: Mansion House Titanic Relief Fund Booklet, March 1913)
Number 451. Colbert, parents. Grant £20.
Was a porter at Abbeyfeale Railway Station, Co. Limerick.
I hope that helps?
Regards

Brian

G'day Mary -

In addition to the data Brian has been able to provide you with, and Colbert's entry in the ET site, Senan Molony's excellent and groundbreaking work The Irish Aboard Titanic (Wolfhound Press, Dublin, 2000 ISBN: 0-86327-805-1) has a full page entry on this third class passenger. If you would like to email me privately, I can give you Sen's email address (might have trouble getting an immediate response, though - as of Easter Sunday, the inimitable Molony is a father again for the second time and has his mind occupied with more immediate things, although he's still talking ship matters).

Colbert's entry describes how he was emigrating to Canada to become a religious brother, and apparently had quite a sum of money with him.

Colbert was born 5 November 1887. The 1901 census entry for the family has his parents as John Colbert (56) Kate (50), and children still at home as Michael (25), Honora (23), Denis (19), Timothy (18), Margaret (16), Daniel (14) and Patrick (11).

Apparently the Colbert family shared land with a group of cousins.

Hello, I am currently pursuing the Colbert one name study and I am registered with the guild of one name studies. If any one is interested please contact me through my website (within profile)

I also have Irish Colbert's but unsure of the region due to unspecific records. I do have a contact on file who has Abbeyfeale Colbert's & can put you in contact if you should wish.

Kindest Regards Jen
