In Mr. Kimball's ET bio it says, 'The couple were rescued in lifeboat 5 with their friends Richard and Sallie Beckwith, Karl Behr and Helen Newsom' and on page 106 of Don Lynch's Titanic - An Illustrated History it says, 'The Beckwiths, their daughter Helen Newsom, he fiancé, tennis star Karl Behr, and the Edwin Kimballs of Boston all climbed in...'. What I was wondering is if anyone would happen to know if the Beckwiths and the Kimballs were travelling together (friends before travelling on the Titanic) or did they meet and become friends aboard the Titanic? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Leigh |

Hello Leigh, Looking at a copy of the Ticket List I sent you their ticket numbers were: 11751 [the Beckwiths], 11752 [Helen Newsom] and 11753 [the Kimballs]. Hope you have been keeping well. Lester |

Hello again Lester, Thank-you so much for bringing that to my attention. I didn't even notice their ticket numbers, how silly of me. Hope you are well also, Leigh |

Dear Leigh, Richard Beckwith and Edwin Kimball had been very close friends for many years prior to their sailing on the Titanic. Mrs. Beckwith's granddaughter, Sally Behr Pettit, told me that Gertrude Kimball had visited her grandmother on a number of occasions during the 1940s and 1950s - long after both of their husbands had passed away. Although Richard and Edwin died when they were in their 50s, both of their wives lived very long lives by comparison. I hope this information will help. Sincerely, Michael Findlay |
