Does anyone know which company provided the blankets for the deck chairs on the Olympic class ships? These blankets were also sometimes known as "lap robes" or "deck rugs". Thanks |

I have consulted the "Witney Blanket Forum" site, pointing out that Witney blankets were said to have been supplied to ocean liners during the 1930s, and later. Another site, WWW.witneyblanketstory.org.uk would seem to confirm this. Unfortunately, small firms did not always keep records but, at a guess, "heavy" fabrics such as rugs, carpets and blankets could well have been supplied from recognised textile producing centres such as Witney and Kidderminster. One would expect that linen products would have come from Northern Ireland and cotton fabrics from Lancashire mills. |
