Am I the first person to note the "April 8th" departure date listed?? That may be a typo, or the fact that April 8, 2012 will fall on Sunday. And if you reference the U.S. Naval Observatory website noting the Moon cycles, http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/MoonPhase.php#y2009 you will see that the first 2012 spring season full moon will occur on the previous Friday, April 6th, meaning that April 8, 2012 will be Easter Sunday. I have learned, from my travels in 2004, that that weekend will be particularly busy for UK residents traveling, especially for heading out of London for the weekend. I'll have to check some of the websites promoting the 2012 trip; see if they list April 10th as the departure date. John Clifford

Okay, I checked one of the sites, for Borton Overseas Travel, US Agent for the Memorial Trip. The departure date is Sunday, April 8, 2012. How the fact that that will be Easter Sunday may affect things I am not sure. My own remembrance was, in April 2004, waiting, in Newcastle, for a charter bus coming up from London, so I could travel on to Alnwick. I took the Train up to Newcastle, from Kings Cross Station, and we were crowded on the trip up. The Charter bus was delayed leaving London, and was full when it arrived in Newcastle, to disembark travelers. I thought "never again", in regards to traveling on 'bank holidays', in the UK. I hope people planning to travel to Southampton, to board the ship, allow a few days, or leave plenty of time to get there. I, myself, will pass on this venture; will work on alternative plans regarding going to Southampton and/or Cobh and/or Halifax. John Clifford

I plan on sitting here at home on 15th, April 2012. The group that is arranging that anniversary cruise offered me half price if I'd do talks on board. Yes thought about accepting the offer. In the end, I’ll leave it to others. |

About Easter Sunday, the Church and the scientists don’t have the same lunar calendar, the Church’s has a much longer history and interpretation behind it. The equinoxes and full moons don’t cross at the same local time at every place on the earth and so there are a few times where the crossing is a day later or earlier because of just passing midnight in different time zone. This can then translate into shifting by a week. Also the Eastern and Western Orthodox Churches have each made their own resolution of some of these practical problems. So in Googling be careful to find an ecclesiastical lunar calendar. Somewhere I think there is just a straight, fairly official proclamation of the date decided upon. Bill |

From my review of the Naval Observatory reports, the schedules have been consistent, over the last few years, to note when Easter will be celebrated, at least in the Roman Catholic Church. Thus, for 2012, the forecast full moon will be APRIL 6th, at 19:19 GMT, Thus, I anticipate that at least the Western Churches will celebrate Easter on April 8, 2012. Of course, for those planning to sail out on that day, you should have adequate time for making plans around possible "holiday rushes". We'll see. John Clifford

Is there anyone here planning on going on this cruise which is really a transatlantic crossing aboard the Fred Olsen Cruise Ship Balmoral sailing from Southampton to New York in April of 2012,which is a Titanic Memorial Crossing. Here is the link http://www.titanicmemorialcruise.com For the price of the fare they are charging for a single passenger,I would rather do a back2back crossing aboard the QM2 which would be cheaper in April of 2012.Any thoughts? I'd prefer to visit Southampton and Cobh, then see what the Cunard ships have to offer, as far as taking a cruise. The alternative would be to travel to Rome, on the Orient Express: not the same route, but a good way to pay tribute to another of my interests. John Clifford

Does anyone here know what ever happened to this other Titanic memorial crossing that has this link http://www.titanicvoyages.com They claim that they will disclose which ship they will be using in this year of 2009.Well now with less than 3 months to go in 2009 and which ship they will use still has not been announced yet.Is it possible that Titanic Voyages canceled this crossing because of the other crossing being offered by Titanic Memorial Cruise and or did they merge their operations with Titanic Memorial Cruise? Take a look at the bottom of my webpage http://www.paullee.com/titanic One little postscript: as some of you may know, I am in severe financial difficulties and I asked Mikle Cowlard of Titanic Voyages to refund £1800 of my money, which he did. About a month and a bit later, I asked him for the remaining £1090. That was three weeks ago and despite leaving phone messages, emails and letters to his address, I have heard nothing. I am not the only one to whom he has been slow to issue refunds. One lady got her money back only after I intervened on her behalf. Be careful! |

I'd suggest you speak to David Hill of the BTS. The officers were keen to associate the society with this company a couple of years ago. |

I've sent an email to the BTS but no reply there either, yet! I heard from Commodore Ron Warwick that David Hill also requested a refund a few weeks back! Mike Cowlard has now been in touch and "a cheque is in the post". Paul -- http://www.paullee.com/book_details.php |

As far as I know it hasn't cancelled its crossing, its looking for a ship. Miles Morgan poached Titanic Voyages idea after finding a ship for them. |

Sounds like a "competing venues" situation is occurring, or about to occur. Two likely "Titanic Memorial Cruises"?? That might leave open an interesting scenario, i.e. "Who can get who for which venture". If the Queen Mary 2 is, also, going to be in the area of the sinking, on or around April 14 & 15th, they might also note something, or passengers on the ship can always do their own tributes. "Stay Tuned for Further Developments" may be an appropriate theme, for these items. John Clifford

Well, so far Miles Morgan have Aldridge's Titanic auctions, and Peter Boyd Smith. Mike Cowlard has a lot more names...including mine....! |

I'm on the Balmoral. I don't get on this site often enough to know which is the better cruise, but I'll live with my choice. We've already booked it and I am really looking forward to it! I'm hoping we can spend a day or two in Belfast before going to Southampton. Marlene |

I would definitley consider going for a cruise like this but the price seems really expensive. I am wondering if I could just either drive down to New York or St.John's/Halifax and take a boat from there to see where the Titanic sank. It would be cheaper and maybe someone might offer it. |

Jacob, The QM2 starts her transatlantic season in April sailing between New York and Southampton.A transatlantic crossing aboard the QM2 is more affordable compared to the fares of the Fred Olsen Cruise Ship Balmoral which is being used for the Titanic Memorial Cruise. And there is the chance that the QM2 may sail at or close to the Titanic wreck site. Also at Southampton the QM2 does dock close to the berth that the Titanic was docked at. I heard about the QM2 trip... but I'm just saying it would be cool if a ship company would just give us the option to sail from NYC, St.John's, or Halifax, just to the wreck site and then back. I'm willing to bet stuff like that will start to develop once it gets closer to the date Maybe I could pay one of the fisherman in St.John's to take me out there. They would love the extra money! |

The problem with sailing to the wreck site on April 15th is that there's so many Titanic fans, so we'll be like 2000 out there in the middle of the night and it won't exactly have the same ambience... R.I.P. little Ebba Iris Alfrida Andersson 14/11/1905 - 15/4/1912

I think I'd enjoy a trip like that but it's just too expensive. I can see where Frances is coming from. It would be a surreal experience and yet if you've got so many folks with you it isn't quite the same. Some things are better experienced by yourself. |

From The Charlotte Examiner: Titanic memorial Cruise to Feature Lectures quote:April of 2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of RMS Titanic. As reported here in October, there will be a memorial cruise to mark the anniversary. This cruise will follow the same course the Titanic took from the UK to the approximate place she sank. However, this cruise is scheduled to make stops in Nova Scotia to visit Titanic memorial and grave sites. The final leg of this cruise is New York City.
