At least seven people died and at least five were missing. Typhoon Mirinae was the fourth storm to lash the northern Philippines since late September and brought new hardship to areas still struggling in the wake of the previous disasters.

The death toll in the hardest-hit province of Phu Yen was 15 after the storm drenched the region with heavy rain Monday, said disaster official Dang Thi Lanh.

A tropical depression last night, Ida's now a tropical storm and is forecast to achieve lower category hurricane status over the next 24 hours. At this point, affected cruise ports could include Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Cruise lines that had planned to call either this weekend or on Monday have rearranged schedules.

Charlie Crist declared a state of emergency Monday, even as Ida weakened to tropical storm status and chugged toward the Gulf Coast. From Cruise Critic: Tropical Storm Ida Heads Toward Land quote:(6:30 p.m. EST) -- Tropical Storm Ida has finished pounding Mexico's Caribbean coast and Grand Cayman and is now headed for the U.S. Gulf Coast. A tropical storm warning is in effect from Grand Isle Louisiana to the Aucilla River in Florida, including New Orleans. A storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the area in the next 24 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center.

All the beach replenishment that was done along the Delaware coast, is GONE! The jettys are all exposed again in Rehoboth and Bethany Beach. |

We need it pretty badly after several years of drought, but not all at once.
