I am interested in knowing more about this ship that sank around 10 years ago.

I also would like to know more about about Scandinavian Star.

There is no information on the web.

Please help me.

Best Regards, Mike

Is the Scandinavian Star the ferry that is now permanently moored in Southampton Docks? I've seen it several times - it's one hell of a mess.

Scandanavian star burned.
Brian Callison wrote an excellent book "FERRY DOWN" based on that disater which was scathing of F.o.C shipping companies and their questionable compromises to safety. HERALD OF FREE ENTERPRISE is a good case in point.

There isn't much at all on the web about Scandinavian Star and I can't find anything on the Jan Hevelius. You could try these:

www.sos.se/SOS/PUBL/REFERENG/9303003E.htm
- brief overview of the disaster and where and how the 158 casualties died

www.nbl.sintef.no/project/scanstar.htm
- analysis of the fire

www.d.net.filmsales.tv/film/dnet059.htm
- details of the 52-minute video available

The Jan Helevius - all I have is that it was a Polish ferry which hit rocks and sank with 50 deaths en route from Poland to Sweden in 1993.

Cheers,

Boz

When I visited my grandparents today I found those photos of Jan Hevelius in their photoalbum.

They are from 1982 when the ship capsized against the harbour in Ystad.

Jan Heweliusz was a 125 m long ferry used between Sweden and Poland. It sank 1993 dued to hard winds. 54 persons died.

My scanner is from 1995. That's why the quality is quite poor. I haven't seen any wreck photos from Jan Hevelius. It lies at only 10-26 metres deep and is oftly visited by divors. If you have any wreckphoto please mail me.

54 persons died. 48 where from Poland and 6 from Sweden. The wreck lies outside the german island
Rügen.

I have a page about the ship here:
http://www.titanicnorden.com/skepp/janh.html
The text is in Swedish, but there are some more
photos.

Facts in English and photos from the sinking can be found here:

Here is the link to a site about Jan Heweliusz http://www.rafy.pl/archiwum_janheweliusz.php . It's in Polish, but it has pictures of the wrack. I've had some more links to pages about a ferry, but I'd have to look for them.
