Latest news is 1 confirmed fatality with 153 missing. There were 877 passengers and crew on board, many of whom were forced to jump into the sea to escape the flames.

The Filipino terrorist group Abu Sayyaf (linked to al-Qaeda) have claimed responsibility for the engine room explosion which caused the fire, although rescue/salvage workers have reported seeing no damage consistent with a bomb explosion. Of the now-known 899 people aboard, around 180 are still missing.
