The fast combat support ship Camden has been retired. http://www.news.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=20447 Camden and her sister, Sacramento ware beneficiaries of the cancellation of the final two Iowa Class battleships, Kentucky, and Illinois. Kentucky was about 65% complete, and stored. When the decision was made to scrap her, the engineering plant was split and used for this pair of support ships which have seen constant service and proved valuable assets to the fleet. These ships are some old friends I remember from my career. As a PacFleet sailor for most of it, I saw both the Sacramento and the Camden all the time. With the decommissioning of the Camden, all four of that class are now gone. Cordially, Michael H. Standart Equal Opportunity Curmudgeon
