Michael McCarty, father of Frederick J. McCarty, was also a steward. He arrived in New York on the Allan Line steamer Victoria on April 23, 1912, seeking information about his son. Michael's ship passed through the same ice field that sank Titanic and ran at half-speed that day. At the time of the sinking, Frederick was 37 years old. He was married, and had three children.
