FROM POPE AND KING

Messages of Sympathy Over Titanic Disaster Are Issued

ROME, April 17.- Both Pope Pius and King Victor Emmanuel have expressed their deep sympathy for the victims of the Titanic disaster and have asked to be informed of the details of the wreck and of the names of the survivors.

Among the passengers were several citizens of the United States who were known personally to the king and the pope, as they were recently received by them in private audiences.

Ernest Nathan, mayor of Rome, today conveyed his condolences and those of the people of Rome, on the loss of life caused by the wreck of the Titanic to the United States embassy.
