Name: Michele Castro From: Orlando, Florida Time: 1999-02-23 20:14:17 Comments: Thank you for taking the time to create this site & compile all the interesting data! I'm originally from New Jersey, but when I was in the 4th grade, one of the Titanic survivors (unfortunately, I cannot remember her name) came to our class (I believe our teacher was related to her husband)to answer any questions we had. Since then, I've had an avid interest in the R.M.S. Titanic. Here in Orlando, the "Titanic: Ship of Dreams" permanent museum will open on April 10th. If you're interested in getting information, the phone # is (407) 248-1166. Keep up the good work! |

Name: Janet A. Kunz From: Philadelphia, PA/Page,AZ Time: 1999-02-21 23:24:37 Comments: My Grand Aunt Ms. Anna Ward (later Mrs. Anna Moynahan) was a survivor of the Titanic. She was the personal maid and companion of Mrs. Charlotte Cardeza. When my Grand Aunt realized that the Titanic was sinking, she took a handful of items and put them into the pocket of her fur coat (under which she wore a nightie). Mrs. Cardeza told my Grand Aunt to keep the items that she had rescued. My sister, my daughter and I are fortunate enough to have some of these items. There is a lot of family history involved with the Cardeza family, two of my Aunts (who have since passed away) worked for Mrs. Cardeza as well as my Mother who was Mrs. Cardeza's secretary in the middle 1930's. The Cardeza estate was at Washington Lane and Morton Street in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, PA. Our family considers the fact that my Grand Aunt was on the Titanic a wonderful part of our history. We also feel very fortunate to have various items from the Cardeza estate ( including some items from the Titanic). Later on in my life, 1989) I was in a boating accident and spent sixteen hours in the water. I can't swim but kept telling myself that if my Grand Aunt could survive the sinking of the Titanic, I could certainly survive the boat wreck that I was in. I think that believing that saved my life.. |

Name: Richard Swaine From: Emsworth, Hampshire, England Time: 1999-02-21 20:04:00 Comments: I read in a local Dorset paper recently of a Titanic survivor named Jacob Gibbons from Studland, near Swanage in Dorset. The article said he was a cook abroard the Titanic. The article continued to explain how the daughter of Jacob Gibbons, Freda Gibbons told of how her father escaped from the galley far below deck by opening a little unnoticed green door in the galley. Somehow, the article says, Jacob Gibbons found his way into one of the lifeboats. However, on scanning the crew lists from your site, there is no reference to one Jacob Gibbons. Can anyone solve this mystery ? |

Name: Lori Time: 1999-02-21 05:54:38 Comments: Today our family witnessed the historic sounding of the Titanic whistles, sounded for the first time since the ship sank. 'Titanic, the Exhibit"is now in St. Paul, Minnesota. Anyone that will be in the area should definitely stop in to spend several hours looking at recovered artifacts, learning about passengers, viewing the memorial wall, and seeing a 20x30 foot section of the hull. For those of you looking for interesting information, there is a very small company in New York that has the publication rights to the first magazine ever printed about the sinking. in 1912. It is full of interesting photos and little known information-facts about stowaways on board, letters from the king of england, etc. I will research the contact information. If interested, e-mail me and I will forward it to you. |

Name: Andrea Rybarski From: Nova Scotia Time: 1999-02-19 03:52:24 Comments: i just wanted to say that i enjoyed reading the stories of the survivors. i watched the movie a million times and i enjoyed it. the stories of the people that survived is incredible. The "ship of dreams" will be remembered always. Sometimes I wonder what was really going thru the people's minds that night. Some were brave and stayed behind, knowing there weren't enough lifeboats for all. Those people I look to. I look for the ones who are still alive to tell the story too, but the ones that purposely stayed behind are special too. I don't mean to sound rude. It's not meant that way. I've looked up this info since the movie came out,I'm intriguied by it now. I need to learn more I suppose. Very good job with the net sites. |

Each student drew a character's name and had to read the book through that character's eyes. Then they were to do further research on their character to share with the rest of the class. This sight will be invaluable to my students. I found the information very interesting. I read the account of the mummy several years ago. I shared that theory with the students and they were fascinated. Keep up the good work! Barbara |

At this point, I'll take the minutest tidbit. Thank you very much. |

Name: Bryan Coleman From: Illinois Time: 1999-02-18 00:24:07 Comments: I love evrything and anything about TITANIC and its history! She was, ahem, "...the largest moving object ever made by the hand of man in all history." But since she was thought "unsinkable by God", God did indeed sink her. It is sad. So many things happened that could have been avoided and saved the ship, like if the lookouts like F. Fleet had binoculars, he could have seen the berg in time to have it turned. Plus, with the mythic order to speed up by J. Bruce Ismay, was just plain arrogance. True it was a large and remarkable vessel, it could never stand the forces of nature.
