An unusual Iroquois passenger list cover from August 1934. Less than a month later, Iroquois was pressed into Ward Line service to replace the lost Morro Castle on her outbound September 8th voyage. About 50 passengers cancelled, but more than 200 sailed despite the disaster. Iroquois was purchased by the US Navy in the summer of 1940. She was renamed U.S.S. Solace, and with her after funnel removed served as a hospital ship throughout World War 2. Post war, she was sold to Turkish Maritime Lines, and renamed Ankara. In that capacity she remained in service until 1977, and was scrapped in 1981 after several years in layup. She was the last survivor of the Ward and Clyde Mallory Lines.
