JESSE STRAUS TO HURRY HOME

New York Times

Saturday 20 April 1912

CHERBOURG, April 19---On the steamer Amerika, which arrived to-day from New York, were Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Straus, son and daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Isidor Straus, who lost their lives in the sinking of the Titanic.

News of the disaster was received by wireless, but only on landing was it learned by Mr. Straus that his parents were not among the saved. He immediately obtained an automobile and left for Havre to take passage, if possible, in the new steamer La France, which sails to-morrow for New York.

It was the Amerika that warned the Titanic of the icebergs only a few hours before she sank.
