NEWPORT, R. I., Aug. 14---John Jacob Astor, whose father lost his life in the Titanic disaster twenty-one years ago, reached his majority today and came into possession of the fortune left by his father. It was first estimated at $5,000,000, but since 1912 has materially increased.
Mr. Astor, who is spending the Summer with his uncle and aunt, Major and Mrs. Lorillard Spencer, at Chastellux, spent most of his birthday motoring back here from New Hampshire. There was no special birthday observance.
