The Titanic Disaster

Stratford Express

Mr William Dixon Mackie, fifth engineer on the steamship Titanic, who, it is feared has perished in the wreck of that ill-fated vessel. Mr Mackie, who was 31 years of age, had resided recently when ashore at 2b, Margery Park-road, Forest Gate. He had been for a considerable time in the service of the White Star Company, and was on the Olympic when she collided with H.M.S. Hawke. He formerly lived at Southampton, but on the death of his wife last year he took up his shore residence with relatives at Forest Gate. His fate is not certain, but very slight hope is entertained of his having been saved. He left this district on March 29th and joined the vessel at Belfast prior to her departure for Southampton.
