TOURIST CLASS DINING ROOM: The air conditioned comfort of the “Tourist” Dining Room will add extra zest to your enjoyment of the famed Holland-America cuisine. Menus offer a tempting array of the same fine food served in “First” and “Cabin.”
The Tourist Class Dining Room was retained when the Nieuw Amsterdam was converted to two classes in 1961. Its staircase was removed and replaced by a small photo shop the exact width of the former hallway which led forward from it to the dining room. The removal of the hallway allowed the double Cabin class foyers to be merged into a single room. The dining room itself was no longer shown on deck plans, but was maintained as a supplement to the two larger rooms, which could be used on booked-to-capacity voyages.
