Special Cable to THE NEW YORK TIMES

LONDON, Aug. 22---According to New York reports published here, Lord
Pirrie, head of the firm of Harland & Wolff of Belfast, is quoted as
having stated that his firm could build a large turbine liner and
guarantee a speed of 30 knots an hour.
In the absence of Lord Pirrie, who is shooting in Scotland, the Belfast
correspondent of THE NEW YORK TIMES to-day saw the Right Hon. Alexander
Carlisle, managing director of Harland & Wolff. Mr. Carlisle declares
that such a vessel is within the bounds of probability.
