John Hardy Retiring
---
John Hardy, chief steward of the American Farmer, will sail tomorrow on his
last official trip at sea.  He has been retired by the International
Mercantile Marine Company, owner of the liner, having reached the age of 65.
Mr. Hardy has had several thrilling experiences during his long career at
sea.  He was chief second-class steward of the liner Titanic when she struck
an Atlantic iceberg and sank in April 1912, and was aboard the Olympic when
she was rammed by a warship.  Mr. Hardy left the Titanic in the second from
last lifeboat.  He sailed on the old Majestic, Teutonic, Celtic, Adriatic
and Olympic.
