Judgment for $266,249 was entered by default yesterday against John D. Baumann & Co., a New York corporation, in favor of Charles G., Hugh L., Herbert R., and William R. Arbuthnot, merchants of London. The judgment was entered for amounts claimed as due on accepted drafts for the purchase of jute in Manila, for money loaned, and commissions.

The corporation of John D. Baumann & Co., with offices at 120 Maiden Lane, is engaged in the hemp trade, purchasing the staple in the Orient and selling it in the United States. The hemp against which the Arbuthnot claims against the Baumann company arose was purchased in Manila between Oct. 24, 1906, and June 9, 1908.
