William H. Force, father of Mrs. John Jacob Astor, remained up all night in hopes of getting news of his daughter and her husband.
When he saw that Mrs. Astor's name was on the list of rescued he was overcome with joy. He lost no time telling his wife and daughter of the escape of Mrs. Astor and asked the line to notify him the moment that any definite news was received concerning Col. Astor.
