Mrs. Lynch, 65; Was Survivor of Titanic Sinking

Mrs. Bridget Lynch, 185 Lexington av., Jersey City, who always related with pride her rescue from the disastrous sinking of the “Titanic,” dies yesterday afternoon in Jersey City Medical Center. She was 65.

Mrs. Lynch was a young immigrant coming to the U. S. from Ireland on the maiden voyage of the “unsinkable” ship when it hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic and went to the bottom with a heavy loss of life.

Her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Hughes, 48 Greenville av., recalled last night how her mother told of being called on deck from steerage to enter a life boat. “She had bought a beautiful new hat in Ireland to come to America with. When she was called on deck she refused to get into the lifeboat until she was allowed to rush back and get that hat.”

A communicant of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Mrs. Lynch was a member of the Rosary Society there.

Other survivors include her husband, John; another daughter, Mrs. Julia Danning; a son, Thomas; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral will be Saturday from Howard Routh Funeral Home, with a Mass to be offered at 10 a. m. in St. Patrick’s. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery.
