DEATH OF SIR WM. ARROL

Ayr, Thursday. (February 6, 1913)

The Press Association telegraphs: - Sir Wm. Arrol the eminent engineer and principal partners in the firm of Sir Wm. Arrol and Co. Ltd, of Dalmarnock Ironworks, Glasgow, died at Ayr to-day. The deceased, who was seventy-four, was contractor for the reconstruciton of Tay Bridge and for the Forth Bridge. He was formerly MP for Ayrshire South.

* Arrol designed the Arrol gantry which housed both the Olympic and Titanic during construction on the Queen's Island. His involvement with the reconstruction of the Tay bridge shows that he was involved in the aftermath of one great disaster and at the formative stages of what would prove to be another.
