Titanic : A nice little earner
Belfast Telegraph
The Americans seem to think that anything connected with the Titanic is potentially a nice little earner. The latest idea is to raise artefacts from the Carpathia, the ship which rescued 705 from the Titanic.
In 1912, the year the Titanic went down, the United States Senate passed a joint resolution extending the thanks of Congress and appropriating $$1000 for a gold medal to Captain Rostron of the Carpathia and a vote of thanks to the Carpathia crew. The Senate Commerce Committee in May 1912 deemed the course followed by Captain Rostron as deserving of the highest praise and worthy of special recognition.
