LONDON, April 29---The Titanic disaster was recalled today with the death of Mrs. Sarah Eleanor Smith, widow of Captain E. J. Smith, who went down with the ill-fated ship nineteen years ago.

The steamship Titanic, a new giant liner of the White Star Line, struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic on April 14, 1912, on her maiden voyage from England to the United States. Within four hours the ship sank with the loss of 1,517 lives, including her commander, Captain Smith. More than 700 survivors were rescued by the steamship Carpathia, which answered a call to the disaster.

Captain Smith had been to sea forty years without an accident. Before he was placed in command of the Titanic he had commanded the Adriatic on her maiden voyage and later the Olympic.
