Reginald George Smith & Hugh Walter McElroy

It is quite likely that Hugh Walter McElroy (purser) and Reginald George Smith (saloon steward) were acquainted as they both had brothers who were Roman Catholic Priests.

Father Richard McElroy and Father Aloysius Smith both served together at the St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church at Bodmin, Cornwall.

At the time of the tragedy it is known that they travelled together to Southampton to gather news of their brothers.
