Society is Shocked At News of Death

Washington Times

Washington society was shocked when news that the name of James C. Smith, of Chicago, was not included in the list of those saved from death when the Titanic sank in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. Mr. Smith was well known in Washington, where he had been a frequent visitor, and where with his wife he freequently had been entertained.

Mr. Smith's wife, who was Miss Bertha Barnes, prominent socially in Chicago and Washington, now is at her Chicago home, where the news of the tragic death of her husband was carried to her.
