Portrait of Thomas Silva
AN EXPIRED passport could have saved his life but instead its holder, Thomas J. Silva, moved heaven and earth to get replacement documents in order to sail on the fatal voyage that left New York on May 1, 1915. In doing so, he obtained his own death warrant.
