Miss Anna Sofia Nysten

Miss Anna Sofia Nysten, 22, was born 22nd January, 1890 the daughter of Samuel August and Maria Sofia Nysten from Farsbo farm outside Kisa, Östergötland, Sweden.

Anna Nysten was daughter to a homestead owner outside Kisa and had been persuaded to travel by Ernst Danbom, who was visiting Sweden with his family. He also persuaded the family of Anders Andersson to join. They boarded the Titanic at Southampton as third class passengers. Anna was travelling to her sister in Passiac, New Jersey.

In a letter home Anna writes that after the collision she had calmly dressed, grabbed her food hamper and gone up to the deck. There she had seen the Andersson and Danbom families. She was rescued in lifeboat 13 and was the only survivor out of 11 from Kisa.

The Woman's Relief Committee gave her $25 in New York.

Anna later married a Mr Gustafsson and died in Des Moines, Iowa on 28th March, 1977.
