Mr Arthur White, 37 [1] was born in Hampshire of 11 March 1875.

When he signed-on to the Titanic [2], in Southampton, on 6 April 1912, he gave his address as 36 Purwall Road, Portland [3]. His last ship had been the Olympic.

According to an article in the New York Herald, White, had at one time, been a prominant manufacturer of soap wrappers but had lost all of his money and resorted to working for tips as a barber on ocean liners. As a barber he worked for tips and received only a shilling a week for living expenses.

White, who was married with four daughters, died in the sinking. His body was later recovered by the Mackay-Bennett (#247).

CLOTHING - Blue suit; green waterproof; pajamas and cholera belt.

EFFECTS - Key; knife; £2 in gold; 21s. in silver; 14 francs; 22d.

NO MARK ON BODY OR CLOTHING.

He was buried at Fairview Cemetary, Halifax, Nova Scotia on 8 May 1912.

Notes
1. When he signed-on he gave his age as 29.
2. For some reason, on the articles of agreement, the barbers were included with the galley staff
3. The senate crew listlists his address as 36 Purbrook Rd., Portsmouth
