Mrs Claire Karnes (née Bennett)
Mrs J. Frank Karnes (Claire Bennett), 22, was a young bride returning from India to the United States for a visit. She boarded with Mary Corey at Southampton. Claire probably spent the last afternoon of her life in the Second Class library, where she and Mary were seen by Lawrence Beesley. Mrs Karnes never knew that her husband had died several days earlier from smallpox in India. She and Mary Corey were among the 14 Second Class women who died in the sinking.
