Mr Ewart Sydenham Burr

Mr Ewart Sydenham Burr1, 292, was born in Bristol3.

When he signed-on to the Titanic, on 4 April 1912, he gave his address as 48 Above Bar, (Southampton)4 although his home was 34 Victoria Road, Woolston5 where he lived with his wife Ethel. They had been married for two years and had a baby son Cecil6.

As a first class steward Burr received monthly wages of £3 15s. His last ship had been the Oceanic7.

He wrote a letter to his wife which he posted when the Titanic touched at Queenstown on 11 April 1912. In it he describes working in the first class saloon and serving at the Countess of Rothes' table8.

Burr died in the sinking. His body, if recovered, was never identified9. Ethel Burr received word of his death on 19 April in a telegram:

Much Regret Burr not Saved10
