J. 1Barnes was born in Hampshire. He had been working as a fireman on the Oceanic when, on 10th April 1912 he signed-on to the Titanic.
He gave his age as 292 his address was Woodley Road, Woolston.
J. Barnes died in the sinking, his body was not recovered.
The Titanic Relief Fund paid out compensation for a number of years.

1. Stringer lists as Frederick Barnes.
2. In the 1911 Census he is listed as John Barnes age 40, a General Labourer, living with his wife of twenty years Amelia and their four children: Thomas (17), Alice (12), Rose (9) and William (8).
