Mr George Alfred Bennett

Mr George Alfred Bennett was born at 13 Princes Street, Southampton on 23rd
July, 1881 1, the son of Joseph Bennett, a merchant seaman and his
wife Elizabeth Hannah (née Shinkfield)2.
George, who was unmarried lived at 3 Deal Street, St Marys, Southampton.
He signed-on to the Titanic, on 6 April 1912. His last ship had been the Olympic. As a fireman he received monthly wages of £6.
Bennett died in the sinking. His body, if recovered, was never identified.

From the Titanic Relief Fund Minute Book number 2, Southampton Area:
Date 23rd April 1914.
Case number C36.
That a special grant of 2/6d per week for three months be made to Mr. and Mrs. Bennett (Partially dependent parents). Mrs. Bennett is suffering from acute rheumatism which is rendering her helpless.
Notes
1. When he signed-on he gave his age as 23.
2. Joseph and Elizabeth Bennett are buried in plot C175 #037 in the Old Cemetery,
Southampton Common. A plaque in memory of their son was recently attached to the
monument.
