Mr Harry John Stroud was born in Southampton, Hampshire on 11 September 1876 the son of John Stroud (ship steward) and his wife Amelia Matilda Morey. The family lived on Anderson Road at the time Harry was born.

When he signed-on to the Titanic, on 4 April 1912, he gave his address as 167 Shirley Road, (Shirley, Southampton). His last ship had been the Danube. As a saloon steward he received monthly wages of £3 15s.

Ted Stroud, possibly a relative of Harry's,  was a second class steward on the Titanic.

Both men died in the sinking.  Their bodies, if recovered, were never identified.

On the 28 April 1912 Harry's father led mourners at a memorial service for victims of the sinking.

His mother received financial aid of 3s 0d per week from the Mansion House Titanic Relief Fund.
