Mr Kalle Edvard Mäkinen

Makinen Kalle Edvard, farmer, smallholder, was born 21th May 1882 in Tevaniemi village in Ikaalinen county in Finland, the son of Miss Maria Sofia  Forsberg, daughter of Kustaa, age 41 when her son was born, unemployed without estate. Father of son unknown. His stepsister Hilma Josefina, born 1871, condemned to prison as a murderer 1902, amnesty 1917. died in age of 83 as senile.

Kalle Edvard Makinen was married 17th November 1903 in the vicarage of Ikaalinen by vicar H.G. von Bonsdorff to Ida Nieminen, daughter of Juho Nieminen, vorn 3rd  June 1880.

Ar the time of their meeting Kalle Makinen was working as a farm worker and Ida as a maid at the same farm.

Their children, son Paavo Edvard, born 30th August 1904 (-1930) Daughter Lempi Maria , born 5th August 1908 (-1920)

It seems that Kalle got some kind of small farm to cultivate after the marriage. They lived at Vahojarvi village in Ikaalinen county. Perhaps their earnings were too small because  he decided to move to America. The ship register tells that he was on the way to Glassport, Pennsylvania and went on board first in Hanko in Finland and later in Southampton (Titanic) According to the church register of Ikaalainen Kalle Makinen drowned in the sea  in 15th April 1912 in the wreck of Titanic. His body was never found. Because of her husbands death,  the widow was admitted a conpensation of £250 by the ship's company. After the disaster Ida Makinen lived alone with her children until 1918 when she was maried to a considerably younger man. She died in 1936 of heart desease. Her children had died even earlier without their own children.
