Mr Matthew Leonard, 26, was born in the USA. He lived with his widowed mother and sister at 45 Chatwell Street [1], Belfast. He had previously worked in Joseph Rea’s The Jewellers, in Anne Street, Belfast, which is still in business today.
He initially signed-on to the Titanic in Belfast on 1 April 1912, for the journey to Southampton, and again on 4 April. The Titanic was his first ship. As a third class steward he received monthly wages of £3.15s.
Matthew Leonard lost his life in the disaster. His body, if recovered, was never identified.
