Mr Nils Johansson, 29, the son of Johannes and Ingegerd Karlsson from Svaneryd, Hallaryd, Småland, Sweden.

Nils Johansson had been machine smith in the USA (probably Chicago) for some eight years and had visited Sweden to bring back his fiancé Olga Lundin.

Travelling from Sweden via Denmark he bought his ticket for the Titanic in Copenhagen. He boarded at Southampton as a third class passenger with his travelling companions Paul Andreasson, Albert Augustsson, Carl Jonsson and Olga Lundin. His destination was the home of his uncle Oscar Benson at 110 North Ashland Block, Chicago.

On the Titanic Olga Lundin could not stand the sea and so that she could get a better cabin Nils paid the extra fare and she moved to second class. His last words to Olga when her lifeboat was lowered was "Send my regards to father and mother." Johansson died in the sinking, his body was never found.

The Mansion House Fund paid 875.52 Kr (£48) to the parents. 1848 Kr (£100) damage claims paid to parents, Oct. 5 1914.

Johansson had claimed to his parents that he was joint owner of a factory and property and that he had a life insurance for $1000. A John Hedman, 1716 Marple St. Brainard, Minnesota was taking care of the insurance payments while he was away. Investigations in 1913 showed that the insurance in "Modern Brotherhood of America" was worthless, there was no property and the factory in Seattle had gone broke.
