He boarded the Titanic at Southampton with his wife Sallie and her daughter Helen Monypeny Newsom (Ticket No. 11751, £52 11s 1d). They were destined for New York, NY and occupied cabin D-35.

The family were rescued in lifeboat 5.

Richard Leonard died on 11 April 1933.
