Mrs Sara Elizabeth Chapman (née Lawry)
Mrs John Henry Chapman (Sarah Elizabeth Lawry), 29, was born at Tremorkin Farm, St Neot, Cornwall in 1883, the daughter of William Henry Lawry (farmer) and Sarah Emma Lawry (née Hill). She had an elder brother, William Joseph Edward (born 22nd November, 1880) and 2 younger siblings, Emma Luttia and Charles Edward. It is possible that Sarah spent some of her young years living with her aunt, Emma Lawry due to the early deaths of both of her parents.
On 26th December, 1911 Sarah married her childhood companion John Henry Chapman at the Wesleyan Chapel, Liskeard. Sarah's brother, William, was by then living and working (as a carpenter) in America and the decision was taken to emigrate and move to live near his home in Fitzburn, Wisconsin. Their journey to Fitzburn was to have been via Chicago. For their trip they chose the maiden voyage of Titanic which they embarked at Southampton as second class passengers.
Mrs Chapman refused to leave her husband and died in the sinking, her body, if recovered, was never identified.
There is a memorial to the couple on Sarah's aunt's gravestone in St Neot Churchyard, Cornwall.
