Mr Servando Jose Florentino Ovies y Rodriguez, 36, was born on 21 February 1876 in Aviles, Northern Spain, the son of Ramon Ovies and Maria del Carmen Rodriguez.

He worked for the family firm of Rodriguez & Co. who were in the import business and based in Havana. In 1912 he was living in Havana with his wife Eva Lopez del Vallardo and son, Ramon Servando. Eva filed a claim for $75,000 for the loss of his life and $2800 for the loss of property.

He boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg as a first class passenger (ticket number PC 17562, £27 14s 5d). He occuppied cabin D-43.

Ovies died in the sinking, his body was later recovered by the MacKay Bennett (#189):

NO. 189. - MALE. - ESTIMATED AGE, 28. - HAIR, DARK.

CLOTHING - Black coat and vest; blue serge pants; grey shirt, marked "J. R."

NO MARKS.

PROBABLY A SAILOR.

The body was eventually identified by J. A. Rodriguez of Rodriguez & Co., Havana. It was initially buried at Fairview Cemetery in Halifax on 3 May but was exhumed and reburied in the Catholic Mount Olivet Cemetery on 15 May 1912.
