Mr Thomas Kilgannon

Thomas Kilgannon was born in the village of Currafarry in County Galway on 2 April 1890. He was the son of John Kilgannon and Mary Killalea and had four brothers and two sisters. Tom was a farm labourer in Ireland with few prospects for the future so was easily convinced by Martin Gallagher to emigrate to America. His destination was New York City where his brother, John, was already living.

He boarded the Titanic at Queenstown as a third class passenger (ticket number 36865, £7 14s 9d).

He assisted Margaret Mannion and Ellen Mockler into Lifeboat 16 and handed Margaret his Aran woolen sweater as she was descending in the lifeboat. She later returned this sweater to his family in Currafarry.

Thomas Kilgannon lost his life in the disaster. His body, if recovered, was never identified.
