Mr Thomas Millar, 33, was born in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. He served his apprenticeship with Harland & Wolff and subsequently worked for Vickers of Barrow, Workman, Clark & Co. of Belfast and Harland & Wolff of Belfast.

Previously had one sea voyage aboard the Red Star Line steamer Lapland . Titanic was his second voyage. A recent widower, Millar left two children.

Tommy's Great grandaughter writes:
Tommy was an assistant deck engineer on board Titanic. He left a good job at Harland and Wolff to sign up with the Red Star aboard Gothland and then, his second voyage with Titanic. His two sons, Tommy Junior aged 11 and William Ruddick aged 5 were orphaned by the Titanic disaster. Ruddick went on to become a playwrite and author and wrote many stories about his father and the effect the Titanic's sinking had upon his young life.

He lived at 27 Hillman St, Belfast. It is no longer there, the area has been redeveloped.

It was 1952 before Tommy Junior and Ruddick received any compensation from the National Disasters Relief Fund (Titanic). Each received a sum of £200 “in full and final settlement”. My grandfather died two years later aged 46.

Tommy has five great grand-daughters. I am the only one still in Belfast and now run a business conducting tours of Belfast's Titanic history...www.titanictours-belfast.co.uk
